You don't have to spend a lot of money to make your house look better.  A fresh coat of paint is a cheap and fast way to give your house a new look. 

If the kitchen needs an update, you can just strip and repaint the cabinets, add some new hardware.

Bathrooms can take some more work.  But if the bathtub is in good shape, you can just update the tiles, this may sound like a large project but it's not. Especially if you have time and another working bathroom.
